MAHB: Depressions at klia2 not a basic safety issue

SEPANG: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has denied that a number of depressions at taxiways and airplane parking bays at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) poses the safety threat to airport functions.

Senior general supervisor of operations, Datuk Azmi Murad, dismissed reports that the parking apron at the airport was sinking because of heavy rainfall, saying that new structure would initially suffer minor settlements of its surface.

“It is not sinking. All new airports will have minor surface settlement, initially.

“Even highways, roads and houses have surface settlement, yet that does not mean it is unsafe.

“This is a normal event and MAHB will take action to resolve issues at the parking apron, inch he said yesterday after the launch of a free shuttle bus assistance between the alternative long-term car park (LTCP), KLIA and klia2.

Azmi reiterated that klia2 experienced complied with all international requirements which continuous monitoring was being conducted to make sure airport operations run smoothly.

“As a responsible airport terminal operator, we will not compromise on safety. MAHB will focus on managing the airport while the airlines should concentrate on flying the aircraft. inch

The shuttle assistance, managed by Mesra Indah Jaya, is for airport users and employees who park their vehicles at the LTCP, a cheaper option for parking at the airports.

“The parking rate at LTCP is RM2. 50 per hour and RM32 for the whole day, compared with KLIA and klia2, which is RM4 per hour and RM46 for the entire day.

“We encourage airport users to recreation area their vehicles there as it is gated, has 24-hour security and is well lit. Airport staff can obtain the season pass for RM45. ”

Five shuttle buses run every 15 minutes for 24 hours daily.

“This is a regular occurrence and MAHB will take actions to resolve issues at the parking apron, ” he said yesterday following the launch of a free shuttle tour bus service between the alternative long-term car park (LTCP), KLIA and klia2.

Azmi reiterated that klia2 had complied with all international requirements and that continuous monitoring was being carried out to ensure airport operations run smoothly.

“As a responsible airport operator, we will not bargain on safety. MAHB will focus on managing the airport while the airlines should concentrate on flying the airplane. ”
